The Alexander Family
The Alexanders came from England. My great great grandfather was Ayers Alexander. He married Haley Lovell. They
lived in North Carolina. They moved to Jamestown, Tennessee and "took up" hundreds(maybe thousands) of acres of
land.
Ayers and Haley had thirteen children. They started to build a house. They were cutting the trees and one tree
fell on one of their little girls and killed her. Immediately the family left Tennessee and came to Wayne County,
Kentucky.
One of these children's name was William. This was my great grandfather. He married a Gibson. They had several
children.
One of these children was Ayers Alexander, my grandfather. Ayers married Molly Thornton in 1820. Her father was
William(Bill) Thornton and her mother was Emerine(Sumpter) Thornton. To this union were born two children:
Joey Frances and Allie.
Allie married Robert(Sandy) McKechnie. Their children were Neil, Pearl, Nell, Wade, Anna Frances, and Glen.
Frances married Sherman Caylor on July 4, 1905. They were married in the parlor of her parents home. This is the
house that Willie and Janice lived in for a while.
Thelma was born in the same house that Mama and Papa were married in. Mama and Papa lived with Mammy and Pappy
(Ayers and Molly Alexander) for a little over a year. Thelma was born on August 9, 1906.
Papa later bought a piece of ground from Mama's grandfather, William Alexander, on which he built a new house.
This land was adjoining Pappy's(Ayers) land. It was in this house that Maude was born on September 29,1908.
It was on this night or the next night that it came a big frost and killed everything. George was born there
also on June 25,1918.
